Taiwan bound, the journey begins…
Life really does toss the odd curve ball, particularly when we least expect it. However, it is how we PLAY that ball that’s important. A few days ago I was thrown one such ball and rather than tossing it away, I have decided to run with it as far as it will take me.

That brings me to the subject matter of my post, for that ball I speak of, was an offer to teach on Penghu, an island off the coast of Taiwan. And the reason that ball is somewhat curved? It’s been thrown a little earlier than planned. You see for some time I have been gathering qualifications in the hope of living and teaching overseas when my youngest son finishes school in 2015. But with job opportunities at an all time low here on the Coast, and my darling boys giving me their full support, I started exploring. And I discovered Penghu.
So in 10 days, I shall begin a new chapter in my life. It will present challenges, I’m sure of that, yet I am also sure it will allow me to grow as both a woman and teacher, all whilst experiencing a new and very different culture.
Silence of the Lambs ahem, Dachshunds…
Oscar & Stanley are my much-loved wire-haired Dachshunds.
More often than not, when I’m on the computer, they will lie with me on my bed if I’m on my laptop, snooze on the couch if I’m at the desktop, wrestle at my feet, or in quieter moments, simply wait and watch.

This morning was no different, they lolled about as I posted images for this week’s photo challenge, and as I was engrossed in posting, I failed to notice their departure. It was only on finishing my post that I noticed I had obviously become the proud owner of two highly skilled, 4-legged interior decorators. And their choice of material? Toilet paper: here are a few snaps of their silent, yet somewhat creative handiwork.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Good Morning…
Most of us are creatures of habit, and although many will say we are not (myself included), certain morning rituals still tend to shape our day.
And my ritual? Every morning the aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills my home and blends beautifully with scent of burning incense.
It is the latter that is the subject of this week’s Good Morning Photo Challenge, for as I sat sipping my coffee, spirals of scented smoke danced beautifully within the morning light. A good morning indeed…
Weekly Photo Challenge: Saturated…
Wonderful moments happen when time is shared with wonderful friends. I had such a moment last Sunday: great conversations shared with a dear friend as we listened to other friends (Dubarray) share their music with the world. Whilst the images are grainy, the lighting that saturated the stage was apt for this weeks theme…
Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside
Last week I did a shoot where my model, Isobella wanted to recreate a particular character. On seeing this weeks Photo Challenge, Inside, I thought some of the images I did on that shoot would be representative of the theme. If you’re interested in taking at look at other images from Isobella’s shoot, they can be viewed at jenniferhammerphotography
Recreating ‘Ellie’…
Once again, I had the pleasure of doing a shoot with the beautiful Isobella. This was quite different from our last (lingerie) shoot as Isobella wanted to recreate the character Ellie from The Last of Us, and enter the images into a CosPlay competition.
These are the results…
taking time…
I’ve been so busy of late, busy trying to find a path in the road I travel. And in doing so, I’ve not found time to browse through WordPress and momentarily step into the lives of other wordpressers.
But that’s ok, they are still there and I like the idea that I can tap into their worlds, drink in their words, life and images, and in doing so, reconnect. That’s comforting.
I have however, had time to pick up my camera to shoot off a few images: a lingerie shoot for a friend who owns a boutique.
In doing so, I’ve taken the time to do what I love : and I love taking photographs…
Introducing Oscar…
In an earlier post I wrote about Stanley’s (my beloved Dachshund) issue with being left alone.

So I researched a number of different sites relating to separation anxiety to find methods that would help overcome his problem.
After following some of the suggested remedies, Stanley has improved, however I feel the main reason his behaviour has improved relates directly to the new addition to our family: Oscar, an 8 week-old Wire-Haired Dachshund.
Stanley is now one happy pooch.
And Oscar, well he is quite simply, divine…

Dogs can speak, just ‘listen’ to their ears…
Dogs can speak. Just as humans use sign language, I believe so do our 4-legged friends, but instead of using their paws, they use their ears. And if you take the time to listen to their ears, you’ll see they actually speak volumes.
With that in mind I decided I would write a post about doggy ear language. On deciding, I thought who better to demonstrate doggy sign language than my beloved Stanley? However there was only one problem with that decision: I needed Stanley to cooperate, but he was too busy sniffing, sleeping, catching a few winter rays or stopping to chat to one of his friends on our daily walk.
So please excuse the quality of the images, it was not an easy task to manipulate leads, IPhones etc to get that perfect shot. But I was persistent and did manage to capture a little of how his dogship communicates. Here goes, with a little caption ‘translation’…
And a final note: as Erica says; dogs definitely make everything better. ❤
