Weekly Photo Challenge: Horizon

On November 5th, I will be heading off to discover new horizons as I shall be spending the next 12 months on Penghu, an island off the coast of Taiwan. This week’s theme therefore was quite fitting, for I’ll be bidding farewell to my current horizons that are familiar and comforting. And I shall be also saying goodbye to friends and family, and someone who falls into both of those categories is my niece, Kate: she is new to WordPress, take a look at her first Photo Challenge. I think she’s amazing.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Good Morning…

Most of us are creatures of habit, and although many will say we are not (myself included), certain morning rituals still tend to shape our day.

And my ritual? Every morning the aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills my home and blends beautifully with scent of burning incense.

It is the latter that is the subject of this week’s Good Morning Photo Challenge, for as I sat sipping my coffee, spirals of scented smoke danced beautifully within the morning light.  A good morning indeed…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Saturated…

Wonderful moments happen when time is shared with wonderful friends. I had such a moment last Sunday: great conversations shared with a dear friend as we listened to other friends (Dubarray) share their music with the world. Whilst the images are grainy, the lighting that saturated the stage was apt for this weeks theme…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

Last week I did a shoot where my model, Isobella wanted to recreate a particular character. On seeing this weeks Photo Challenge, Inside, I thought some of the images I did on that shoot would be representative of the theme. If you’re interested in taking at look at other images from Isobella’s shoot, they can be viewed at jenniferhammerphotography

Recreating ‘Ellie’…

Once again, I had the pleasure of doing a shoot with the beautiful Isobella. This was quite different from our last (lingerie) shoot as Isobella wanted to recreate the character Ellie from The Last of Us, and enter the images into a CosPlay competition.

These are the results…

taking time…

I’ve been so busy of late, busy trying to find a path in the road I travel. And in doing so, I’ve not found time to browse through WordPress and momentarily step into the lives of other wordpressers.

But that’s ok, they are still there and I like the idea that I can tap into their worlds, drink in their words, life and images, and in doing so, reconnect. That’s comforting.

I have however, had time to pick up my camera to shoot off a few images: a lingerie shoot for a friend who owns a boutique.

In doing so, I’ve taken the time to do what I love : and I love taking photographs…

Dogs can speak, just ‘listen’ to their ears…

Dogs can speak. Just as humans use sign language, I believe so do our 4-legged friends, but instead of using their paws, they use their ears. And if you take the time to listen to their ears, you’ll see they actually speak volumes.

With that in mind I decided I would write a post about doggy ear language. On deciding, I thought who better to demonstrate doggy sign language than my beloved Stanley? However there was only one problem with that decision: I needed Stanley to cooperate, but he was too busy sniffing, sleeping, catching a few winter rays or stopping to chat to one of his friends on our daily walk.

So please excuse the quality of the images, it was not an easy task to manipulate leads, IPhones etc to get that perfect shot.  But I was persistent and did manage to capture a little of how his dogship communicates.  Here goes, with a little caption ‘translation’…

And a final note: as Erica says; dogs definitely make everything better. ❤

A boy and his camera: the results…

My 15 year-old son Rob took his camera, his bike and his friend to the beach today: these are the images I found in the camera…

Yes I am a proud Mum, but I think his images are brilliant. And because of the ‘ripples’ he captured within his images, I felt they were fitting for Ailsa’s travel theme this week.

Karma: Flight attendant style…

Here is how the dictionary defines Karma: the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence: viewed as deciding their fate in future existences…

On route somewhere...
On route somewhere…

With that being said, it’s important to remember how our behaviour could come back and bite hard in our ‘future existence’.

For one gentleman who had hoped to spend some time in NYC recently, karma certainly bared its teeth and took a big chunk out of his plans and probably his pride.

A friend who was operating on his flight said the gentleman (loosely termed: cough, splutter) in question boarded and proceeded to complain. The food wasn’t hot enough the drinks weren’t cold enough, the service wasn’t good enough the cabin temperature wasn’t right, ah the list went on and on.

Apparently no amount of kindness, service or helpful advice seemed to appease this bothersome man.

So in the end the crew let him rant to his heart’s content, as after all, on arrival in New York they would politely say goodbye, retreat to their 5-star hotel in downtown NYC, and never set eyes on him again.

Flying over the French Alps...
Flying over the French Alps…

But they were wrong. They did see him again and this time they were quite pleased to see him doing what he obviously thought he did best: complain!

And his complaint?

Just two little words the steel-faced customs agent had swiftly slapped onto the gentleman’s passport. And those words?

‘Entry denied’.

p.s. Thanks (RB) a very special and very lovely friend who told me this tale. 🙂
